Merry Christmas from the Lundeens!

12/24/2014:

Welcome to our new blog! We are excited to move towards working in East Africa in the work of Bible translation, and here is where you can follow our adventures!

Where in the world are the Lundeens? Well, we’ve been, and will be, a little bit of all over the place. We are currently spending the Christmas holidays in Ontario with the Szmiett side of the family. We return to the Seattle area in January, and then will be spending several months in Dallas, TX, at Pioneer Bible Translators’ headquarters to complete some training and ministry planning. We are seeking out financial and prayer partners for our ministry over the next few months for our hoped-for departure for East Africa late 2015, and it has been so encouraging for us to have people join us in bringing the Scriptures to a people group that do not have it yet!

See our About Us page for more information. We invite you to follow our blog by entering your email address in the bar at the right.

Merry Christmas from the Lundeens!

Fall colors in Cowiche Canyon

Oct. 26, 2013:

Jenneka and I found some beautiful scenery and colors when we walked through Cowiche Canyon, near Yakima, WA.  Accompanying us were my parents' cairn terriers Cambo and Duncan. I just couldn’t get over the beautiful reds and oranges of the turning leaves, and Jenneka (and the dogs) was most patient as I stopped every couple minutes to take pictures.

These are my favorite photos, and the rest of the set I have posted here.

Garibaldi Lake

June 19, 2013

In the summer of 2012, my friend Ryan Kopke and I took a few days to backpack up at Garibaldi Lake in BC.  These are my ten favorite photos from that beautiful area, including a couple stitched panoramas.  I was amazed at the wildflowers to be seen in August, and I was thrilled with the dramatic clouds that made many of the shots.

I've posted the rest of the set here.

Coming back down, Ryan takes a quick route.

Enjoying dinner by the lake.

Panorama of the lake and surrounding mountains from Black Tusk.

The future lies ahead

May 30, 2013

This is my first non-photo post, and it’s a good time for one.  There have been many developments in my life lately!

M's game J&J
At the Mariners game 4/26/13
Last week I officially graduated with a Masters in Applied Linguistics and Exegesis from the Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL) at Trinity Western University.  For those of you who have read the ‘About’ page you know that my goal is to be involved in Bible translation, with a people group that does not have a Bible in their mother tongue yet.  There are over 2,000 languages where such a project has not even been started!  Now that I have graduated it’s on to the next step, whatever that may be.

However, another development helps with that.  I have officially been accepted with Pioneer Bible Translators (PBT) as of today.  PBT’s primary mission is to facilitate this kind of Bible translation.  They are much like Wycliffe Bible Translators (for those of you who are familiar with them) though smaller.  The coming days will likely reveal next steps for moving forward with PBT.  I don’t know where in the wide world I might be eventually going, and the timing is completely in God’s hands as well.

Another amazing development in my life is I recently began dating a wonderful woman.  It’s still hard to believe that God has brought Jenneka into my life; what an expression of grace!  Currently we are dating at a distance, because I am moving back to Washington for the time being, while she is continuing to study at CanIL.

How this all fits together, I don’t know yet.  But I find it all so exciting and am expectantly looking to God for his leading and timing.  Please pray for me!

Old Way Round motorcycle trip: Top 10 photos

Feb. 27, 2013

Here are my ten favorite photos from my 2011 Old West themed motorcycle trip with my chum Ben, in no particular order.  Ben's blog about the trip, Old Way Round, has the story.  I have the rest of the photos from the trip posted here.

It was beautiful riding in Montana.
Hole in the Wall Canyon, WY, was gorgeous.  We camped out here.  I like the shadows in this photo.
This photo from my sleeping back still chokes me up.
The focus here is far from sharp, but I don't care. It seems to add to the mood and I do love this photo of Ben.
We're riding out from Hole in the Wall. A great windy, dusty road through the bluffs.
Okay, I just get a kick out of this one (no pun intended). What happens when I bust down this door in St Elmo, CO? Ben took this pic.

Who isn't a sucker for a ghost town in sepia tone?
Such interesting geography in Utah
The lightning, cloud edge, and campfire glow make this one of my favorites.
Ben and I at the Bullock Hotel in Deadwood, SD. I like the composition of this photo, not to mention how bad-ass we look.

Sunset and fog over Vancouver, BC

Feb. 19, 2013

I took these photos from the ridge west of Buntzen Lake, overlooking Vancouver BC and Burrard Inlet.  Several friends and I were on an intrepid dayhike and found ourselves on the ridge at sunset (which was great for photography but bad for hiking back in the dark).  The fog in the lowlands beautifully obscured the city, and created a real sense of drama and distance.  One can see the mountains of Vancouver Island in the distance, over the fog-shrouded Strait of Georgia.
